The Importance of E Vitamin
Vitamin E is vital for it helps in a variety of functions in the body. For one, vitamin E helps prevent heart diseases. It aids the body to fight off heart disease and stops it from getting worse.
This vitamin is also essential in protecting the cell membranes from free radicals present in the body. Yes there are other vitamins which equally fight off harmful free radicals but vitamin e is one of the vitamins which are easily absorbed into the cell membranes allowing it to effectively combat free radicals.
The amount of vitamin E needed depends on a person’s body weight. This may be achieved through eating foods which are rich in vitamin E. Foods which have significant vitamin E content are limited and include seeds, nuts, vegetable oils and wheat germ. Sometimes, eating foods is not enough to do to get one’s needed amount of vitamin E. Taking vitamin E supplements is also recommended. However, there are some medical conditions which make a person not able to absorb vitamin E. One of these conditions is cystic fibrosis where a person is not able to digest fats well which leads to less vitamin E absorbed by the body. In this case, a person may be prescribed to take vitamin E supplements.
People should be more conscious about their health and observe if they are taking in enough vitamin E in their daily diet. The deficiency of this vitamin may cause damage to the nerves of the spinal cord or retina of the eye. As early as now, one should maintain regular in take of vitamin E to ensure a healthy body especially during adulthood or old age when signs of vitamin E deficiency will start to be evident.
