The term vegetarian is always thought to mean as a person who does not eat meat. It is surprising information to know that there are actually different types of vegetarian classified according to their preferred foods to eat.

Being a vegetarian is generally not eating meat but may or may not eat dairy products. A lacto ovo vegetarian does not eat fish, meat or poultry, however, consumes dairy products such as eggs, milk and cheese. A lacto vegetarian eats all the above items except for eggs.

Another type of vegetarian is the vegan eater who does not eat any animal product or by-product. This type is considered the stricter type. They take in fruits, nuts, vegetables, grains and legumes. They do not consume white rice and white sugar. These people are also against the use of any leather goods that came from animals.

There are also vegetarians who only eat fruits and they are usually called Fruitarians. They believe that fruits are enough to provide their daily needs of vitamins and nutrients. They also believe vegetables are subjected to a cooking process that takes away its nutritional value while fruits’ nutrients are intact.

One will notice that the examples of vegetarian types mentioned above are not only a preference on the food being eaten or the process food is handled but also a deeper belief of a person is also involved. Most vegetarians prefer this way of living with the belief that by doing so, they contribute to the need for balance and harmony on earth.
